Natural Resource Field Methods - NATR 2020

This course provides an introduction to various methods used by natural resource professional. Students will apply what you have learned to take actual measurements in the field and use analytical techniques to draw conclusions and make decisions. The course will provide an introduction to a wide array of technical skills. As a professional, these skills are basic to natural resources management and are therefore very important to understand and apply properly.

Wetland Ecology and Management - NATR 5250/6250

Wetlands are important components to the landscape because of their ability to store flood waters, improve water quality, and provide valuable wildlife habitat. Because of their value, wetlands have become protected around the country by Federal, state, and sometimes local laws. Wetlands are often managed in different ways to enhance their value to society. This course will provide an overview of wetland ecology, various wetland ecosystem types, and explores how wetlands are managed.

Taught at Dauphin Island Sea Lab, this is an introductory course that examines the various aspects of coastal zone management in the United States. The course provides an overview of 1) important coastal environments, 2) substantive and procedural aspects of specific laws and regulations which govern activity in the coastal zone environment, and 3) how coastal environments and processes affect specific management issues of the zone.
